Jefferson Airplane was stable from 1967-1970 with Marty Balin, Jack Casady, Spencer Dryden, Paul Kantner, Jorma Kaukonen and Grace Slick. In 1972 the group broke up and split into two bands, Hot Tuna and Jefferson Starship. Jefferson Starship settled in 1974 with members Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, David Freiberg, John Barbata, Papa John Creach, Pete Sears, and Craig Chaquico. Marty Balin rejoined the group in 1975. This proved to be the band's most commercially successful line-up.
